Basic Function/Overall Responsibilities: The Child Care Shift Supervisor has overall shift responsibility for the provision of a safe, therapeutic, and culturally sensitive environment for children in residential care.
This position requires critical thinking skills, advanced child care skills and the ability to assess stressful situations and respond appropriately.
Principal Assigned Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and guidance to child care staff, meet with staff on shift individually biweekly to provide feedback on job performance.
Identify issues or concerns related to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment and taken corrective action, and bling to the attention of Program Supervisors.
Provide assistance/guidance to other child care staff relative to the effective management of programs arising in the life space; participate in the supervision of child care staff.
Ensure that child care workers adhere to program routine and follow individual treatment plans, supervision plans, and crisis intervention plans during assigned shift.
Ensure supervision of children in accordance with individual enhanced supervision plans, program protocol and agency policies.
Participate in professional development trainings.
Chair daily pre-shift meetings which sets the plan for the day as relative to recreation, visitation, transportation, medication management, etc.
Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and biweekly supervision, with input on meeting agendas.
Ensure the completion of all written documentation as defined by program and agency policy and procedure.
Ensure that all program and agency policies and procedures are followed.
Successfully complete Medication Certification training and pass medication in accordance with physician's orders and record medications given according to agency guidelines and procedure.
Successfully complete all required agency trainings as defined by program and agency policy.
Ensure compliance with labor standards as related to staff breaks, and management of additional hours during shift.
Become an agency Therapeutic Crisis Intervention trainer.
In transitional services program coordinate intakes/referrals into program in accordance with program policy and procedure.
Other related tasks and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum high school or equivalency diploma required; some higher education preferred.
One year related child care experience preferred.

Identifies developmentally appropriate behavior and reasonable expectations for children's behavior.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.
Demonstrate ability to provide leadership for staff.
