Job Summary Responsible for designing network solutions based on customer requirements.
Determines and implements methodologies to proactively and centrally manage the MVHS WAN and LAN segments.
Provides the highest level of support for network support staff, client support staff and users.
The Network Engineer II reviews all performance statistics necessary for network changes, capacity planning and performance management.
Performs R&D as necessary to make recommendations on future strategies as well as enhancements and improvements to the existing infrastructure.
Provides IT network maintenance, support, implementation, security and planning.
Monitors and performs advanced diagnoses and troubleshoots to resolve issues with network infrastructure.
Performs device configuration and connectivity preparation to the local area networks (LAN’s) and wide area network (WAN).
Core Job Responsibilities Perform cable testing and certification.
Perform configuration and implementation on routers, switches, hubs, bridges, and other networking related components.
Analyze performance statistics for tuning of routers, switches, hubs and other network components.
Responsible for day to day administration of network related components and security related systems on the WAN and LAN segments.
Gathers and reports performance statistics and information for proactive network management.
Recommend changes and enhancements to existing infrastructure to improve performance and security for the network.
Effectively uses IT issue ticket system.
Works on various networking & infrastructure projects.
Provide support to client support staff and users and take pride providing the highest level of customer service.
Share knowledge and skills with network support staff.
Serve as project manager for network implementation and expansion.
Perform recommendation, research and development activities on new technologies, solutions and ideas.
Responsible for disaster recovery and contingency planning.
Perform proactive maintenance on network and related components.
May install, update and monitor data information systems.
Install, update and maintain data information equipment related to network management.
Evaluate vendors’ proposals and technology to secure needed services, hardware/software and assist with procurement activities.
Maintain technical skills in line with current industry standards and certifications.
Keep current with new developments/technologies through continuing education, seminars/conferences, professional societies/journals and networking with other network professionals.
Is available for on-call duty after hours in an on-call rotation with other support staff.
Communicates clearly and concisely with customers and management.
Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements Required: BS degree in computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications or related field, or equivalent work experience.
4-8 years of experience in IT networks or applicable experience.
Knowledge and experience with IP administration, LAN/WAN, Routing, Switching, problem determination, Disaster Recovery, CISCO Configuration, Capacity Planning, Packet Sniffing, knowledge of TCP/IP, MPLS, WiFi, Firewalls, Linux Administration, Network Security.
Must work as an excellent team member and have superb verbal and written communication skills.
Must possess good customer service skills and be able to provide education and technical support to other staff.
Design and problem solving skills with technical documentation, procedures, workflow, logic and systems required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements Required: Minimum two IT network certifications: CCNA required, CCNP or Linux+ preferred.
