JOB SUMMARY: The Production Shift Leader is responsible for performing a variety of operational duties required for the accurate and timely completion of job orders, performing manual duties to process and complete product where appropriate, overseeing work performed by Operators, and is the primary on-site contact for matters related to personnel, equipment, building, grounds and security during a 2nd or 3rd shift, or combination thereof.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
• Observe, monitor and ensure compliance with all safety requirements and practices, including taking action to stop production if safety is compromised
• Take appropriate action(s) regarding matters that arise related to personnel, building, grounds and security during a 2nd or 3rd shift, or combination thereof
• Ensure defined production schedule is carried out in all assigned production areas during shift
• May open and/or close/secure the building and perform facility security check as required
• Oversee the work performed by a team of Operators
• Operate machines and/or other equipment for product processing as needed, which may include among others, assembly, chemical preparations and additions, machine operating, extrusion, metal handling, melting and/or casting, and packaging functions with no direct supervision
• Mentor less skilled Operators, participate in their growth and development, and provide feedback to Supervisors regarding success and learning potential of Operators
• Ensure completion of any and all required documentation to track work, record scrap, and maintain the accuracy of completed parts and required inventory
• Identify and perform rework as needed and assign rework to others
• Demonstrate competency with support tools such as mics, gauges, and other electronic equipment as trained
• Perform equipment preventative maintenance as required
• Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, specifications, procedures, TEOs and instruct others
• Perform quality assurance testing as required by process, product and/or procedure
• Uphold the standards necessary to maintain our business certifications and to maintain good quality standards and practices associated with them
• Attend training as needed or assigned
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• High school diploma or GED and 3 years related work experience
• Associate’s degree preferred
• Possess and demonstrate positive mentoring and leadership qualities
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Functional math skills as required to use measurement equipment such as micrometer/caliper and other electronic equipment as trained
• Functional computer skills, experience with MRP/ERP systems beneficial
• Demonstrated organizational skills
