The role of the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA is to plan, organize and conduct occupational therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation of those residents who have experienced a decrease in ADL functions.
To be assigned as staffing requires
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will establish and perform treatment programs for assigned residents.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will upgrade goods as appropriate and physician order recommendations.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will enter billing information in an accurate and timely manner.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will report resident progress in meetings, i.
e.
Medicare A Meetings.
Consult with other members of rehabilitation team to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will provide residents with equipment as appropriate & inform Social Services of equipment needs at discharge.
Requisitions supplies and equipment.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, COTA will design and construct special equipment for individuals and suggest adaptation of individual’s living environment.
Lay out materials for individual’s use and return equipment to appropriate place.
Conduct training programs for other workers/families in occupational therapy techniques and objectives for resident care.
Chart notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the therapy provided to the residents as well as the resident’s response to the therapy.
Perform routine documentation as required and in accordance with our established charting and documentation policies and procedures.
Sign and date all entries made in resident’s medical record.
Requirements:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is trained and licensed, meeting the qualifications set forth by the NYS Board of Education and the NYS Rules and Regulation requirements.
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant reports to the Director of Rehabilitation and works in conjunction with licensed Occupational Therapists, Medical Director, Medical Staff, Nursing Department and Administrators of both facilities.
Graduate of an approved Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.
Training certification by the AOTCB and current licensure in good standing with the NYS Board of Education.
One (1) year experience in the skilled nursing facility setting.
Experience with MDS, PRI and Comprehensive Care Planning.
Entry-level knowledge and professional competency of the practice of occupational therapy as set forth by the NYS Board of Education and the AOTA.
