Job Summary: The Quality Coordinator of the Pathology Department at Oneida Health is responsible for transcribing gross dictation and final pathology reports dictated by histology technicians, pathologists, and cytotechnologists accurately and in a timely manner.
Additionally, this role involves resolving discrepancies, managing billing information, maintaining departmental statistics, assisting in quality assurance reports, managing consult requests, and providing administrative support.
Key Responsibilities: Transcribe gross dictation and final pathology reports accurately and promptly.
Verify patient and specimen information, resolving discrepancies, and clarifying ambiguous terminology.
Add charges and CPT codes for technical component billing based on testing performed.
Register outpatient surgical specimens and verify insurance information.
Manage requests for consults on pathology cases and track submissions.
Prepare quarterly QA reports and maintain pathology statistics.
Review and reconcile billing for consultations and send-out testing.
Prepare pathology billing files for submission to the billing service.
Answer phones, facilitate requests for pathology reports, and monitor office supplies.
Take minutes at department meetings and assist with software upgrades in the LIS.
Perform QA on surgical/cytology accessions and call offices for patient history.
Review Pap smear requisitions for billing and scan requisitions and results into the EMR.
Send out tissue/specimens to reference labs for testing and type letters for send-out slides/blocks.
Education: HS graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Previous experience as a medical typist (Required).
Experience with anatomic pathology typing (Preferred).
Required Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in medical transcription and data entry.
Attention to detail and accuracy in transcribing reports.
Knowledge of CPT coding and billing procedures.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with pathology terminology and procedures.
Proficiency in using office equipment and computer software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
