The School Aide – Residential Enhancement position is responsible, under the direction of the classroom teacher, to assist the teacher in implementing student IEP’s and coordinating classroom activities, assist students while on community occupational outings, field trips, provide support and assistance with personal care activities, provide assistance in lunch preparation and clean up, support students during mealtimes by following personalized mealtime guidelines, and maintain classroom organization.
This position also has responsibilities to assist with the children’s residential program during school breaks and snow days.
Core Responsibilities
Provide assistance in coordinating individual and group activities in the classroom in line with each students IEP.
Read and comprehend each students IEP and other plans outlined above.
Demonstrated ability to write clear and concise notes, observations, and provide accurate data.
Provide support and assistance to students throughout the school day.
Assist therapists as needed in carrying out student therapy goals.
Provide physical and/or verbal support to acute behavior issues.
Provide a supportive person centered approach while interacting with students.
Participate in classroom maintenance and organization.
Participates in Agency activities and trainings.
Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPPA requirements.
In addition to above outlined responsibilities for the school program, this position also entails activities in the residential program, including but not limited to the following:
Promote independence by implementing the Individual Program Plan (IPP) and/or the staff action plan.
Ensure that documentation is accurate, contemporaneous, and effectively communicates all information required.
Promote and oversee the safety and well-being of the individuals’ we support.
Attend to personal, self-care and other program needs that the people we support cannot independently accomplish.
Accompany people we support during medical emergencies, which may extend beyond scheduled shift/hours.
Assist in the daily housekeeping duties, not limited to serving meals, cleaning wheelchairs, and laundry in conjunction with the people we support.
Prepare meals that adhere to special dietary considerations.
Provide assistance with basic tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating.
Assist people we support in the development of appropriate behavioral, social, money management, and hygiene skills necessary to reach independence.
Adhere to mandatory reporting regulations and HIPAA laws.
Residential Enhancement Requirements
Staff holding this position agree to work the following schedule above and beyond the typical 12-month school calendar schedule:
School closures due to inclement weather, or, scheduled days off as ‘snow day give backs;’
At minimum, twelve (12) additional eight (8) hour residential shifts, either evenings or weekends, per year – ideally at minimum one additional shift per month;
At minimum, ten (10) additional eight (8) hour residential shifts during scheduled breaks as outlined in the Tradewinds school calendar.
Failure to meet these minimum residential shift requirements would result in a move out of the School Aide – Residential Enhancement position.
Qualifications
High School Degree or equivalent.
Valid NYS Drivers License.
Basic Computer Skills.
Must be able to complete and maintain SCIP-R, First Aid, CPR certification.
This position may require irregular work hours at times.
Shifts may vary depending on the needs of the people we support.
Unanticipated circumstances may arise requiring the ability to work beyond scheduled shift.
