Job Summary
The Nurse Manager assumes twenty-four (24) hour responsibilities in managing the operation and function of the nursing unit/department.
She/he promotes the delivery of high quality patient care based on utilization of the nursing process and nursing standards.
Must be competent to care for, assess and treat patients according to developmental needs.
Core Job Responsibilities
Reviews and acts upon exit interview information of staff who resign or transfer from the unit/service.
Implements method(s) to monitor equipment needs &/or reduce equipment replacement, which assures adequate tools for patient care.
Plans and conducts monthly staff meetings at times that facilitate attendance
Maintains clinical competencies consistent with service/unit expectations as evidenced by ability to function in staff capacity as needed
Serves as a clinical resource person for nursing staff.
Provides direction and input in the formulation of unit specific policy and procedure relative to patient care consistent with the standards of the identified specialty as well as regulatory, accreditation and licensure requirements
Assesses and evaluates patient care to ensure standards are being met
Actively monitors nursing practice relative to documentation.
Develops annual departmental budget according to established procedures and meets all target dates for submission of information.
Maintains and utilizes supplies and equipment to meet established budget or activity based on a volume adjusted budget.
Education/Experience Requirements
Required:
Current Professional Nursing Registration in New York State
Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competency in clinical areas
Ability to function effectively with multi-disciplinary groups
Preferred:
Previous managerial experience highly desired.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Required:
BSN
Current CPR certification.
