_\*Competitive Civil Service position_
The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority is seeking one full-time experienced Electrical Technician/Industrial Electrician.
Position requires a variety of skilled electrical control maintenance, repair or installation tasks involving both low and high voltage and programmable logic instrumentation and digital power transmission which control Authority facilities.
General instructions are received regarding tasks to be performed, permitting reasonable leeway for the planning of work methods and details of each job.
The incumbent also performs duties normally associated with routine electrical equipment maintenance and repair activities.
The incumbent may supervise others, depending on tasks performed.
*Responsibilities and Duties*
Installs, maintains, tests, calibrates and repairs digital transmitters and remote-control systems;
* Installs, maintains, tests, calibrates and repairs a variety of electronic and electro- mechanical gauges and metering devices;
* Leads in the installation, repair and reprogramming and programmable logic controls and related equipment;
* Recommends changes to electrical systems and maintains inventory of electrical supplies;
* Tests and checks circuits, circuit breakers, voltage regulators and transformers by replacing worn parts and burned out contacts;
* Installs and repairs fixtures, switches, motor controls, lamps, etc.

* Installs, maintains and repairs electric motors and electric generator equipment;
* Performs other installation and repair work both electrical and non-electrical in nature;
* May supervise assistants assigned to help with large maintenance and repair jobs.
*Qualifications and Skills*
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
* Thorough knowledge of common practices, tools, terminology and accident precautions of the electrical trade;
* Thorough knowledge of the design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical programmable logic controls, instruments, devices and equipment;
* Ability to read and interpret wiring and construction plans, diagrams and blueprints;
* Ability to work with low potential, high potential circuits and extra high potential circuits to 30,000 volts;
* Ability to install, test and calibrate digital transmitters and remote control electrical systems;
* Ability to lay out work;
* Ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow oral instructions;
* Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at time of application.
Either:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or technical institute with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology AND two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical equipment which shall have involved programmable logic controls and digital equipment;
*OR*
B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND four (4) years of experience as outlined in (A) above.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $56,771.
00 - $70,964.
